Committee 2008- 2009

...President

Alecia Bellgrove
Alecia's interests lie broadly in population and community ecology of marine algae and invertebrates. Her research has largely focussed on the intertidal environment of wave-exposed rocky shores. She is also interested in human impacts on the marine environment.
Email: alecia.bellgrove@deakin.edu.au

...Vice-President

Judy Broom
Judy Broom is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Otago, where she works on the molecular systematics and phylogenetics of marine macroalgae.
Email: judy.broom@otago.ac.nz

...Secretary

Martina Doblin
Martina is a phytoplankton ecologist with research interests in harmful algal blooms, aquatic invasions and biogeochemistry. Martina is a Senior Research Fellow in the Plant Functional Biology and Climate Change Cluster at the University of Technology, Sydney.
Email: martina.doblin@uts.edu.au

...Treasurer

Jo Jones
Jo was a founding member of ASPAB. Jo retired from the University of Liverpool in the UK and moved to Australia where she is now a Visiting Fellow in the School of Botany and Zoology, Australian National University. Jo spends much of her spare time carrying out intertidal research near Batemans Bay, NSW.
Email: jo@jokain.net

...NZ Membership/Treasurer

Tracy Farr
Tracy worked and studied in Australia and Canada before settling in 1996 in New Zealand, where she fell, very happily, out of biomedical science and into macroalgal research. She works at the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) in Wellington, and her current research focus is on marine macroalgae in general, and coralline algae in particular.
Email: ASPAB@niwa.co.nz

...Webmaster

Erasmo Macaya Horta
Erasmo is a chilean PhD student at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Erasmo is studing the dispersal patterns of the giant kelp Macrocystis. He has interest in algal taxonomy, algae aquaculture, ecology of floating macroalgae, defenses of macroalgae and genetics of kelp populations.
Email: erasmo.macaya@vuw.ac.nz

...Student member

Roger Huerlimann
Roger is a PhD student at James Cook University, Townsville. He is studying the biochemical pathway involved in lipid production and is characterising acetyl-CoA carboxylase in different algal groups. His interests include biochemistry and molecular biology.
Email: roger.huerlimann@jcu.edu.au

...General member

Alan Millar
My research focus on taxonomy and systematics of marine algae from the south-western Pacific and south-east Asias.
Email: Alan.Millar@rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au

...General member

Fred Gurgel
My research focus is on the systematics of these organisms. My ultimate phycological interest is to bridge the fields of taxonomy, molecular biology, ecology, organismal biology and biogeography to create a more holistic understanding of macroalgal evolution, distribution and biodiversity.

Email: gurgel.fred@saugov.sa.gov.au

...General member

Joe Zuccarello
Joe is a lecturer at Victoria University of Wellington where he has been for several years. He is interested in algal evolution and biogeography. He also studies macroalgal taxonomy.

...Newsletter Editor

Kyatt Dixon
Kyatt is interested in the taxonomy and systematics of red algae from both tropical and temperate regions and is currently completing his PhD investigating the phylogenetics and cryptic diversity within the crustose red algal family Peyssonneliaceae at the University of Melbourne.
