SAMPAA 7 - the Conference of the Science & Management of Protected Areas Association, scheduled for 17-22 April 2011 in Banff, Alberta, Canada. SAMPAA 7 will examine the evolving roles of government, Aboriginal peoples, non-government organizations, industry, the science community and the public in establishing and managing protected areas for the future. It will explore the roles and connections of urban parks to larger protected areas, and it will focus on how to build support to ensure that parks and protected areas remain relevant for the next century. It will also look beyond protected areas, focusing on other ways to achieve large-scale sustainability of landscapes and seascapes. It will span the social and ecological sciences, local knowledge, education theory, and the arts. |

The 2nd International Marine Conservation Congress: Making Marine Science Matter is scheduled for 14-18 May 2011 in Victoria, BC, Canada. This congress will serve to unite the marine conservation community and develop new and powerful tools to further marine conservation science and policy. The IMCC is aimed at advancing marine conservation by facilitating discussion among scientists, managers and policy makers and developing science-based products that inform policy change and implementation. |

15 January 2011 is the deadline for submitting abstracts to 8th International Conference on Molluscan Shellfish Safety, scheduled for 12-17 June 2011, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The 12th International Symposium on the Interactions between Sediment and Water is scheduled for 19-23 June 2011 in Dartington, Devon, UK. The following Conference themes are proposed to explore the state-of-the-art in sediment-water science, from catchment to coast, and its contribution towards sustainable management of water-sediment systems: Nutrient and pollutant fluxes in natural and engineered aquatic systems; Role of biota in water-sediment interactions of marine and freshwater environments; New technologies for advancing sediment-water science from micro to catchment scale; Adaption of sediment-water systems to climate change risks; and Restoration of disturbed aquatic systems.
