| Two types of travel awards are available to ASPAB student members: (1) funds to support travel to ASPAB conferences; (2) funds to support travel to other conferences, workshops and laboratories. In any year, priority will be given to students travelling to an ASPAB conference, but other travel funds will be awarded depending on available finances. Grants will be awarded on merit and successful applicants will be required to submit a report describing the outcomes of their travel to be published in the ASPAB newsletter.

Student members may be eligible for student travel subsidies
to attend ASPAB conferences. Application should be made
on the Student ASPAB Travel form.
The following criteria must be met:
• At least 12 months membership prior to the conference;
• Students must deliver an oral or poster presentation;
• Students must provide a Proof of Student Status letter
on departmental letterhead, signed by the supervisor or Head of
Department. The letter must indicate that the greater part of
the work was the student's;
• Copies of travel receipts.
Grants will be paid prior to travel but only when airfare and registration receipts are received and the applicant includes details of any other funding for which they have applied. We will pay half the sum of the airfare plus the earlybird conference registration or AUD$1000/NZ$1000, whichever is the lower. We will not pay accommodation costs. Applications will be considered throughout the year to support travel.

Student members may apply for an international travel grant
to attend conferences, workshops, courses as well as herbaria and
laboratory visits. To apply for a grant, please use the
ASPAB International Travel form.
Only one successful grant will be awarded to any student for International
Travel during their candidature.
Grants will be considered if the following criteria are met:
• Students must attend an international conference and give
a presentation, participate in an internationally recognised course
or visit a recognised herbarium or laboratory. Proof of participation
is required and should be in the form of a letter of acceptance
from conference organisers, course co-ordinators or laboratory administrators.
• A 'Proof of Student Status" letter, with Departmental
letterhead, signed by the supervisor or Head of Department is required.
• Proof that travel was actually undertaken (e.g. copies of
boarding passes etc). In the event of non-attendance due to medical
reasons where the student is unable to claim refunds of fares or
expenses, a copy of a Medical Certificate should be forwarded to
the Secretary. Once sighted by the Secretary, the certificate will
be destroyed. It will not be shown to any other person.
• A student must have been a member for at least 12 months
prior to application.
• Recipient must submit a review of their trip for publication
in the ASPAB newsletter, describing or summarising the work they
undertook. |
